Klamath County approves one-time grant for Cove Community Partnership, contingent on 501(c)(3) documentation

The Klamath County board approved a one‑time, contingent grant to Cove Community Partnership after county staff told commissioners the domestic‑violence shelter is behind in property taxes following an organizational restructuring.

"I would move that we grant Cove Community Partnership, $33,267.77 and an additional $1,021.58 for, to get them whole while they contingent upon them getting their 501(c)(3) status," the Chair said, proposing the total to help the shelter maintain services during its status restoration.

A commissioner urged the board to consider using opioid‑related funds if allowable but stressed that any county payment should be contingent on the shelter providing documentation to the assessor: articles of incorporation, bylaws/charter, financial records, leases or deeds, and IRS 501(c)(3) paperwork. "I don't wanna just give them the money and then the work's not done," the commissioner said, and requested proof before release of funds.

The motion passed by voice vote; the transcript records at least one dissent and does not include a roll‑call tally. The grant was described as contingent on the shelter completing the nonprofit documentation and the county confirming eligibility and assessor records before distributing funds.
