Pike County amends electrical inspector contract and adopts updated fee schedule

Pike County Fiscal Court voted July 15 to update its electrical inspector contract and adopt a revised fee schedule that separates residential and commercial rates and adds a fee for return visits.
Roy, the county staff member who reviewed the changes, told the court the state required updated paperwork and an order that sets fees. "It's a two-part thing," Roy said, explaining the contract update and a separate set of fees designed to align with regional practice and reimburse inspectors for travel and repeat visits.
One commissioner raised enforcement concerns, saying some inspectors are working in the county without the court's approval under the county ordinance: "We've got electrical inspectors that's coming in the county and doing electrical inspections that's not approved by this court. And I don't know how we enforce it," the commissioner said. Roy and the court discussed that the revised paperwork and fee order were intended to align the county with state standards and make enforcement clearer, but the transcript records no immediate change to enforcement procedures.
The court moved and approved the contract amendment and the fee schedule by roll call. The fee schedule shown to the court includes tiered residential fees (separating homes up to and over $250,000), commercial fee categories and the new return-visit charge that would compensate inspectors for repeat trips.
The court directed staff to finalize and file the updated documents required by the state and to provide the revised order that sets the fees.
