Superintendent Heidi Perkins presented two staff-training and curriculum items on Aug. 12. The board voted 7'00 to approve three Science of Reading literacy training options for elementary-certified staff after Scott Eilers moved to approve and Rebecca Mason seconded.
Perkins also described a proposed Activate Learning high-school physical science curriculum pilot that would provide 60-day digital access and hands-on kits for teachers to evaluate. If science teachers support the curriculum after the trial, Mrs. Perkins said she would seek board approval to purchase the program at the Sept. 9, 2024 meeting. The minutes record the pilot description but do not include cost or vendor contract language.
The board did not take a final purchasing vote on the science curriculum at the Aug. 12 meeting; administrators were directed to proceed with the trial and return with teacher feedback and any recommended purchase terms.
