Council members reviewed a public comment proposing IRC-level sound-transmission standards for six-unit ‘multiplex’ buildings, discussed costs and technical options, and assigned a council member to draft an amendment after getting architecture-seat input.

At its July 14 special work session, the Washington State Building Code Council discussed a written proposal to add sound-transmission (sound attenuation) language to the new multiplex housing appendix, which would apply IRC-level requirements to six-unit buildings built under the residential code. Staff identified the proposal as coming from John Sue and confirmed the submission recommends "the IRC level."
