Residents raise concerns about data centers and local code enforcement during public comment

Two residents addressed the council during public comment on July 13 with distinct concerns for city staff to follow up.

Nina Brown (2642 Boston Street) expressed strong concerns about data centers she said had been installed without adequate public notice; she alleged electrical surges and a range of health and surveillance risks tied to data center deployments and requested answers from the city. Brown said she had prepared a "notice of liability" and claimed she would pursue it if the city did not respond. Her comments included assertions about equipment origins and health impacts; the city response in the record was limited to an acknowledgement of the comment and a promise staff would follow up.

Donna Florian (221 Cincinnati Street) described ongoing problems with a privately owned neighboring parcel that she said had weeds, dilapidated buildings and debris near a child care facility; she said she had repeatedly contacted the owner and had spent personal funds to clear trees near her property. City staff acknowledged the concern and said a manager would reach out to assist with code-enforcement follow-up.

City staff did not dispute the residents’ complaints in the record and committed to follow-up outreach; no formal action or vote resulted directly from these public comments at the July 13 session.
