CHP plans DUI checkpoint, steps up e‑bike enforcement; board asks for local data

He described a new admonishment form CHP will use for juvenile e‑bike violations that notifies parents of potential penalties and outlines local rules: e‑bike riders are limited to 5 mph on sidewalks in Rossmore, riders under 18 must wear helmets, no passengers are permitted on foot pegs or seats designed for a single rider, and vehicles with motors over 750 watts are classified as motorcycles under California Vehicle Code and require DMV registration and a drivers license.
Yonazawa gave crash and enforcement figures: 15 total crashes in the reporting period (including 4 involving an e‑bike), five injury collisions and four hit‑and‑run incidents; CHP recorded 220 enforcement contacts (citations and warnings) in the district this year. Board members asked CHP to break enforcement contacts down by vehicle type and to provide monthly reports showing citations versus warnings and the number of DUIs in Rossmore; Yonazawa said the CHP can sort contacts by vehicle type and will ask Officer Valdivinos to provide a more detailed breakdown at a future meeting.
Board members also asked CHP to increase presence during school drop‑off hours at Foster and Bostonian and to consider recruiting senior volunteers at district events. Yonazawa said CHP would follow up on those requests. "Were planning on conducting another DUI checkpoint in the Rossmore area at some point this summer," he said.
The briefing prompted discussion about school‑zone speeds and enforcement strategies, and several directors encouraged CHP to deploy senior volunteers and radar trailers where they are most needed.
