Commission approves park-use rules, fee changes and Lake Park repairs

The City Commission unanimously adopted Ordinance 16-2025 and Resolution 13-2025 on Nov. 18, 2025, establishing standards and fees for private uses of city parks and amending the parks fee schedule.
Commissioner Blaze Drinkwine outlined new monthly park events starting in January and the 'Christmas in the Parks' event scheduled for Dec. 14 at 6 p.m. The commission approved a $3,000 quote from Gueritas Painting LLC to repaint the Lake Park building. During discussion of the park-use ordinance, Ernie Williams of Main Street asked that the band "the Barking Dogs" be exempted from the fee; Mayor John Vogel II said he would use his discretion to help the band.
Ordinance 16-2025 adds a section to the city code providing for user fees, deposits, insurance and indemnification for private uses of parks and for administrative procedures; Resolution 13-2025 updates the fees and charges schedule to align with the ordinance. Both measures passed on unanimous votes.
The commission also noted staff work on grant applications to add Wi-Fi and security cameras at Lake Park and ongoing collaboration talks with Saint Leo University on rebuilding the dock to link Lake Park to the university.
