The Board of Trustees of Bigfork Elementary School and Bigfork High School approved several routine and capital measures at its Nov. 13 meeting in the high school library.
On a motion by Trustee Zack Anderson, seconded by Trustee Julie Kreiman, trustees approved replacement of the elementary gym bleachers. Superintendent Tom Stack told the board the existing bleachers are approximately 40 years old and out of code and recommended a proposal from Tutt Construction, which previously installed the high school bleachers. The motion passed unanimously.
Trustees also approved a 10-day addendum to the Food Service Director’s contract after Superintendent Stack described ongoing staffing shortages and extra duties that require additional work days. That motion was made by Trustee Ben Woods and seconded by Trustee Dan Elwell and passed unanimously.
The board conducted the first reading of Board Policy 8460 (Naming School District Facilities), a model policy from MTSBA, and adopted Board Policy 8100 (Transportation) on a motion by Trustee Anderson, seconded by Trustee Kreiman. Superintendent Stack said 8100 was updated following a Title audit and thanked principals and Mrs. Kallenberger for their work; the adoption passed by unanimous vote.
Trustees approved a high school out-of-state choir field trip to Spokane in May for about 18 students and two chaperones, as requested by Mr. Heuchert. The board also voted to submit an application for a second electric school bus; Superintendent Stack said if the district is selected the local share would be roughly $30,000–$50,000 and a future trustee vote would be required before purchase.
Business Manager Lacey Porrovecchio asked the board to approve a Visa business-card resolution because Costco accepts only Visa; trustees approved the resolution unanimously. Porrovecchio also reported that the district’s participation agreement with the Montana Schools Unemployment Insurance Program is being updated but that there are no substantive changes to district coverage and the district pays approximately $15,000 per year.
The consent agenda — including October minutes, student activity reports, bill approval lists, surplus property resolution, district donations (an $18,053 donation from the Bigfork Youth Baseball Association for high school baseball and $2,000 from the Bigfork Booster Club for hydration carts), out-of-district student approvals, and multiple personnel recommendations — was approved on a motion by Trustee Dan Elwell and seconded by Trustee Ben Woods.
The meeting adjourned at 5:50 p.m.
