Dawson County work session moves several administrative items to Aug. 15 voting agenda; fire-code update deferred

At the Aug. 1 work session commissioners discussed a draft Chapter 22 fire-code update (fire-flow standards) and deferred further action; they placed the 2025 payroll and holiday calendar, RFP #434-24 for A&E services related to the public health facility, and two board appointments on the Aug. 15 voting agenda. A concept proposal for a Harmony Church Road multi-use site was presented for later review.
Dawson County commissioners used their Aug. 1 work session to brief one another on administrative and project items and to place several matters on the Aug. 15 voting session agenda.
A draft update to Chapter 22 of the county fire code concerning fire flows was discussed for information only and will return for further consideration at a future work session, County Manager Joey Leverette said.
Human Resources Director Kristi Finley presented the proposed 2025 payroll and holiday calendar; the board agreed to place the calendar on the Aug. 15 voting session agenda. Leverette and Purchasing Manager Melissa Hawk presented RFP #434-24, a solicitation for architectural and engineering services tied to the county’s proposed public health facility; the board placed the RFP on the Aug. 15 voting agenda.
Leverette also introduced a concept proposal for the Harmony Church Road multi-use site development and said the project is expected to proceed in phases and will return to the board after staff solicits design proposals.
The board reviewed two appointment recommendations to be added to the Aug. 15 voting agenda: Jere Allen to the Joint Development Authority (replacing Brian Trapnell; term through Dec. 2024) and Wayne Goodwin to Parks & Recreation (replacing Chad Cofield; term through Dec. 2027).
County Manager Leverette and County Attorney Angela Davis reported they had no additional information to present at the work session. The items noted above will appear on the Aug. 15 voting session agenda for formal action.
