Dawson County approves Character Area Map amendment after second hearing

The Dawson County Board of Commissioners voted 4-0 Aug. 1 to adopt a Character Area Map Amendment following a presentation by Planning & Development Director Sharon Farrell.
Farrell told the board the item was the second of two public hearings, with the first held July 18, 2024. Chairman Billy Thurmond opened the hearing, invited public comment and, hearing none, closed the hearing.
Commissioner Seth Stowers moved to approve the amendment; Commissioner Chris Gaines seconded. The motion passed 4-0.
The amendment was presented as part of the county’s land‑use review process; Farrell reviewed the proposed change and its place in the hearing schedule but did not record public testimony at the Aug. 1 session. The board did not request further staff direction or additional hearings at the meeting.
The board’s approval finalizes action on the map amendment as presented at the Aug. 1 voting session.
