Director: master plan near completion; library weighing options if WLS support changes

Director Daddio reported to the board that the library has submitted materials to H2M and will deliver the results of community surveys (about 130 returned) to support development of a strategic and master plan.
Daddio said building repairs are progressing — roof stairs have been fixed and the air conditioning is stable — and noted a garden-club grant funded about 500 pollinator plants. She told trustees she hopes to have a meeting date with H2M by the next board meeting.
On technology, Daddio warned that WLS (the shared system used by local libraries) has indicated the library will lose some maintenance support. "They still say that they are going to provide support for us, but I don't understand how they can adequately do that when they are not maintaining the machines," she said. Daddio added the library is exploring outside consultants and the possibility of purchasing and maintaining its own machines; she noted the library currently pays what she described as about "$1,200 a machine every every year" for the shared system and that joint purchasing with neighboring libraries such as Pleasantville could be an option.
Trustees encouraged continued outreach to other directors and vendors to determine cost and service trade-offs. The board asked staff to investigate options and report back at a future meeting.
