Division reports full accreditation under new state framework; one school flagged for targeted intensive support for a subgroup

Division instructional leaders summarized Virginia's updated accreditation and accountability framework and what the changes mean for Amelia County schools.
Doctor Browning explained the state's separation of accreditation (compliance with standards) from accountability (student mastery, growth and readiness) under the new framework. "Accreditation is based on the standards of accreditation...and our accountability is how well are our students," he said, outlining different weightings by school level for mastery, growth and readiness.
Browning told the board the division overall is fully accredited. He explained that federal identification for struggling schools has been folded into the accountability framework and that schools can be identified as "comprehensive support and improvement" (CSI) or "targeted support and improvement" (TSI) based on subgroup performance. He noted the division had one school move to "needs intensive support" because a subgroup (students with disabilities) did not meet the threshold under the new relative framework.
Principals presented school-level scores and subgroup context: an elementary overall framework score of 77.1 (off track, influenced by subgroup outcomes), a middle school score of 87.3 (on track, strong growth), and a high school score reported at about 110 (distinguished) with strong CTE and graduation performance.
Board members asked clarifying questions about subgroup identification and supports; administrators said they have been proactively reviewing data and planning interventions since summer and would continue to target supports for identified subgroup populations.
