The Warrick County commissioners voted to increase the county's part-time hourly rate by 75¢ during the same budget session that adopted a 3.5% raise for full-time staff.
A motion to increase the part-time rate by 75¢ was moved and seconded; commissioners voted 7-0 in favor. County staff said they will update departmental budgets to reflect the higher hourly rate and the board discussed options for departments to manage the increased cost, including reducing hours or reallocating project line items.
The board also heard multiple comments that departments were having difficulty finding part-time workers and that modest increases to the hourly rate would improve recruitment and retention for seasonal operations such as parks and the pool.
County staff will calculate the total fiscal impact and propose line-item adjustments at a follow-up budget meeting.
