Board hears construction and bond updates for early‑learning and primary projects

At the July 20 meeting, the board received a multi‑project construction update from Executive Director of Maintenance Mr. Tyson covering early‑learning facilities, primary schools and temporary modular arrangements.
Tyson reported that flooring and interior finishes are underway at the Eddysseville Early Learning Academy with substantial completion scheduled for Aug. 11. He described exterior progress at Mount Ridge Primary including paving base coats, sidewalks and light‑pole installation and said a turning lane on Jerristown Road is scheduled, with substantial completion anticipated Oct. 22.
Tyson said modular classroom units for the Mountain Ridge temporary campus are arriving on site; modular installation was scheduled to begin the day after the meeting and the district expected modulars to be ready for teachers by around Aug. 7 and for students by Aug. 20. Furniture was being staged nearby to streamline the move.
At Inwood Early Learning Academy, crews were installing footers and removing rock to create a storm runoff pond; Tyson said the contractor is crushing and reusing much of the excavated rock on site. Asbestos abatement for the associated demolition was scheduled for the week of Aug. 3, after which a demolition date will be set.
For Falling Waters Elementary, Tyson said agency review (School Building Authority, WV Department of Education) was pending and bid documents were planned for release the week of Aug. 3 with anticipated bid opening the week of Sept. 14; a likely construction start date was given as Oct. 12, pending review schedules.
The board also approved two change orders for the Hendersonville/Eddysseville project: smoke‑seal work required by the fire marshal ($3,560.53) and additional network/data/security camera work ($8,369.86), for a combined $11,930.39.
Next steps: administration will provide dates and agency review milestones for the board recap and continue to minimize future change orders through blueprint addenda.
