The project would cover roughly 440 books and include on-site scanning to avoid shipping fragile volumes, Mitchell said, adding the on-site portion would take about 12 days to complete. Mitchell asked for conditional approval because county funding for the work was to be considered by the county council the next day: "The proposal for the total scanning investment is $222,333.16," she told commissioners.
Commissioner [name withheld in transcript] moved to approve the digitization proposal pending confirmation of funding at the council meeting; a second was recorded and the board gave the conditional approval. The motion was announced as carrying, "3 0," in the transcript.
The county will proceed only with the contracted stages; Mitchell said the office will retain responsibility for the more expensive indexing step. County staff and commissioners discussed logistics for 24/7 public-access personnel during on-site scanning and asked the recorder to provide a corrected quote reflecting the date-range correction before implementation.
The conditional approval means work may begin after the council confirms funding; Mitchell said she would deliver an updated quote promptly.
