Cheatham County commissioners on May 18 approved a zone change for property at 1035 Turnipseed Road, rejected a separate rezoning request for 1001 Oakmont Road and failed to pass a rezoning for land on Thomasville Road.
The Legislative Body voted 10–0, with two commissioners absent, to rezone Map 68, Parcels 16 and 18 (owners Joe and Pam Frejosky, and Susan Beer) from Agriculture to E‑1 after a motion by Commissioner James Hedgepath and a second from Commissioner Walter Weakley. The parcel is in the county's 6th voting district and not in a Special Flood Hazard Area.
A motion by Commissioner Eugene O. Evans Sr., seconded by Commissioner James Hedgepath, to deny the request from Tamara Meadows to rezone Map 56, Parcel 110 (1001 Oakmont Rd., 5th district) passed by roll call 10–0, with two absent.
A third request, from Andres Felipe Silva Gomez to rezone Map 3, Parcel 60 (4935 Thomasville Rd., 3rd district) from Agriculture to R‑1, was moved by B.J. Hudspeth and seconded by Chris Gilmore but failed by roll call, 4 Yes, 6 No, 2 Absent.
The public hearing for the three advertised rezoning requests drew no speakers for or against the changes; the hearing record notes no public testimony on the items. During the public forum that opened the meeting, resident Mike Colbert spoke on a separate property-access issue in Pleasant View, saying, “There is no access to the farm for sale through Bluebird Drive in Pleasant View and I am opposed to the use of eminent domain on Bluebird Drive.”
Next steps: Approved rezoning will be finalized in county records; parcels denied or where motions failed retain their existing Agriculture zoning absent a future successful application.
