Select Board approves temporary Pan-Mass Challenge route changes, asks for resident notice

The Bourne Select Board heard July 21 from a Pan-Mass Challenge representative seeking a temporary routing change for the August 2026 event because of ongoing campus construction. Quinn Paul described a plan for riders to use Academy Drive, turn right on Tower Lane and use local connectors to reach the gym parking area, and for shuttles to avoid certain neighborhood roads.
Select Board members expressed support but asked organizers to notify affected residents directly. One member asked that organizers conduct a reverse 9-1-1 to Tallah Lane residents to warn them of road closures and impacts; Paul said he would work with the town to implement that notification and that this was the first time he had been asked to do so in 20 years.
A motion to amend the previously approved Pan-Mass Challenge route as proposed was moved, seconded and approved by voice vote. The board reinforced a restriction on parking at Taylor’s Point for the relevant weekend and asked event organizers to coordinate with police and the town for traffic management.
