Engineers identify Bascom limestone site for potential Saint George well; testing permit requested

Hydrogeologists who evaluated town-owned parcels told the Saint George Selectboard on May 21 that a Bascom limestone formation on town land is the preferred site for a potential new municipal well because preliminary data indicate lower radionuclide levels compared with other local formations.
Andy Hoak of engineering firm Dubois & King advised the board that the next step is to submit a new source application and to conduct preliminary testing to estimate yield and water quality. Hoak said minimal tree removal might be needed for access and that, if test drilling is successful, the site could become the town’s permanent water source; if unsuccessful, the test well would be abandoned.
Nate Goldman and Phil Plourde, representing local interests in the St. George Community Co‑Op, asked the board to schedule signing of the testing-permit application for the June Selectboard meeting and said they would provide written details on the application process and timeline for the board’s consideration.
