Appling County sheriff allowed to keep evidence sale proceeds for training ammunition

Sheriff Mark Melton told the Appling County Board of Commissioners that his department sells weapons and other items that cannot be returned and that proceeds from those sales totaled $4,774. Melton asked the board to allow the sheriff's office to retain the funds to purchase ammunition for officer firearm training rather than turning the money into the commissioners' office.
