Effingham selectmen adopt revised building-permit fee schedule, effective Aug. 1

The Effingham Board of Selectmen voted July 23 to adopt a revised building-permit fee schedule that the board said clarifies application costs and adds new categories for solar installations and changes of use.
Selectman (S2) read the proposed schedule and moved that the board "accept the new permitting schedule and fees fee schedule as re as I just read." Chair (S1) seconded the motion, and the board voted in favor. The board set the effective date at Aug. 1, 2026.
Under the adopted schedule, examples of fees read into the record included: nonresidential and multifamily permits $150; permits for buildings 200–1,000 square feet $100; under 200 square feet $50; a campsite structure $50; a seasonal recreational-vehicle permit adjusted to $100; solar-panel-array installation $100; and a $50 fee for change-of-use filings. The board noted some items on the posted applications would not change.
Several board members and attendees asked whether the proposed fee schedule had been posted on the town website; a participant said they could not find a single, consolidated fee schedule online. The board instructed town staff to post the adopted schedule on both the old and new website and to ensure application pages link to it.
Zoning officer (S5) and staff agreed to update forms and the website; the board did not amend the amounts on the floor. The hearing closed with the board approving the schedule by voice vote. The new schedule will be effective Aug. 1 unless otherwise amended in a future meeting.
