Lucas Local board hears $17 million draft capital plan; treasurer clarifies fund source

At a June 16 meeting in the Lucas Heritage Middle School library, Mr. Schall of consulting firm Bradley Payne presented a draft 10-year capital plan that includes an estimated $17 million in renovations across district facilities. Mr. Schall said the figures are draft estimates and still need to be finalized.
During a public question period, visitor Adam Hall asked whether the $17 million amount was part of the General Fund or a separate fund. Mr. Pickering replied that the $17 million is shown in the 070 Capital Projects Fund and that the General Fund balance is just above $7 million.
The presentation used updated figures from Garmann Miller, Mr. Schall said, and the board did not adopt a final capital plan at the meeting. Later in the session the board approved a $1,000,000 transfer from the General Fund to the Capital Projects Fund, a separate fiscal action that increases the district’s capital resources.
The capital plan presentation emphasized renovation needs across district facilities over the next decade but provided the caveat that the numbers presented are preliminary. No binding contract awards or specific project start dates were approved as part of the presentation. The board will consider finalized numbers and next steps in subsequent meetings.
