Monroe Library highlights digital usage, adds Librista app and summer programs

Monroe City Library Director Shelly Monroe told the board on April 13 that Utah currently has the highest usage of the Libby app (Overdrive) among western states and that the Beehive Library Consortium administers the program.
Monroe said the Monroe Library pays about $800 per year for consortium access and described complexities in the tiered payment structure, including extra costs when a title exceeds a usage threshold and different resource levels among larger libraries. She said she will attend a consortium meeting in Provo on April 16 to learn more about reducing wait times and cost structures.
Monroe also introduced a new app, Librista, which will let patrons search the catalog online, save titles and view item information; staff will help patrons create accounts. She announced the summer reading theme, "Unearth a Story," with programs on archaeology, dinosaurs, rocks and plants and local-business prize incentives. The library’s annual book sale is set for July 24 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.; the board discussed buying 50 decorated book bags at $7 each and deferred the final purchase decision to the July meeting.
