City staff announced that Finance Director Albert Avila plans to retire in December after more than two decades with Oakdale. Council approved a contract with Ralph Anderson Associates to conduct a national executive search for a replacement.
Patrick, the staff presenter, told council the firm was selected after a competitive process and proposed a 12-week recruitment timeline that includes a position profile, outreach, candidate screening and background checks. The firm's CEO, Sabrina Landreth, was noted for extensive government finance experience.
Staff said funding for the $26,500 recruitment contract will be paid from general-government contract services and that Avila will remain involved through the selection process to aid transition and onboarding. Council members expressed appreciation for Avila's long service and asked that the successor have a period of overlap for knowledge transfer.
What comes next: Staff will begin the recruitment process, with interviews and candidate shortlisting to follow; the city anticipates having a seated candidate in the fall with Avila available through December to assist with the handover.
