Staff requested an additional $39,832 for construction engineering and inspection contingency and a $50,000 construction contingency, bringing the total project budget to $488,153.39.
Staff recommended and the council approved appropriations from the water capital replacement fund, the sewer capital replacement fund ($69,195) and Measure L funds ($118,993) to cover portions of the work. The need for the upgrades was emphasized by staff because existing infrastructure has reached the end of its useful life and will overlap with ongoing well work in the same corridor.
Council members asked about schedule coordination with well construction and confirmed the bid line items matched the budget. The contract was approved by roll call, 5-0.
What comes next: Staff will issue a notice to proceed and begin construction coordination with well contractors and utility stakeholders; staff said the work will be scheduled to minimize traffic impacts and to coordinate road restoration after overlapping work is complete.
