Coffee County Commission adopts separations policy, public comment rules and 10-year solid waste plan

The Coffee County Commission on March 10, 2026, approved multiple policy and budget items and heard recognitions for local veterans and educators.
The commission adopted a Separations Policy and a new Public Comment Policy after motions by Commissioner Miller (seconded by Stubblefield for the separations policy and by Hollandsworth for the public comment policy). Both policies were approved by recorded vote counts showing 16 yes and 2 absent (Perry and Hodge). The commission also adopted Resolution 2026-03, a 10-year Municipal Solid Waste Regional Plan, on a motion by Commissioner Morris, seconded by Commissioner Watkins; that resolution passed by recorded vote (16 yes, 2 absent).
At the start of the meeting the commission approved the agenda and multiple consent items, including notary approvals, financial summaries as of Jan. 31 and Feb. 28, and six school budget amendments for Fund 141 (items labeled #141-2026-13 through #141-2026-18) and two county budget amendments (Fund 116 #116-2026-16 and Fund 101 #101-2026-17). Commissioner DeFord moved and Commissioner Watkins seconded approval of the consent agenda; the motion carried (yes 15, no 1 — Brown — with two absences). The commission later approved the January 13, 2026 minutes unanimously (16 yes; 2 absent).
The meeting also included a recognition of VFW Post 10904 and presentation of the Governor's Volunteer Stars Award to the post. Post Commander Kimberly King and other VFW representatives — Lamar Wilkie, Christie Conlee and Jim Dobson — were acknowledged along with teachers Robin Walker and Roy Slaughter and student essay winners Kenneth Buchanan, Lexie Newman, Bryley Willey and Jayda Kochersperger.
The commission adjourned following routine committee reports; a separate resolution to limit terms was flagged for review.
