County clerk: early voting underway; tabulator testing complete

County Clerk Cindy Swenson addressed the board to announce that early voting had started and was located in the community room. She said the county held public testing of election equipment on July 14, that all tabulators are sealed and certified by the U.S. Election Assistance Commission and the Wyoming Secretary of State, and that the county does not re-certify machines for each election (certification persists until equipment is replaced). Swenson said software updates were completed May 28, 2025, and that tabulators would be ready to deploy to precincts before Aug. 18.
Swenson also said that under "statute 22 2 1 12" county clerk offices must remain open for election business during normal voting hours; for Sweetwater County she said the office will be open on election day until 7 p.m. to support polling operations. She told commissioners the early-voting site already had "eager voters" and thanked staff and election judges who assisted with the public testing and tabulator runs.
Commissioners asked about test tallies; Swenson said the most recent test deck included 5,719 ballots and took about 11 hours to process through absentee-tabulation machinery for the public test.
Next steps: Clerk's staff will continue outreach about early voting hours and prepare tabulators for precinct deployment.
