Putney Selectboard backs VTrans sidewalk grant for Putney Landing

The Putney Selectboard on Nov. 26 approved a letter of support to the Vermont Agency of Transportation for a $92,800 sidewalk grant for Putney Landing and authorized Selectboard member Aileen Chute to sign the submission.

The vote followed a report from Planning Commission Chair Sue Coakley, who outlined a package of related planning work: a Housing Needs Assessment and Action Plan done with Camoin Associates, ongoing research for zoning bylaw modernization, and efforts to identify funding for a Comprehensive Village Plan called for in the town plan. Coakley presented the Putney Landing grant request as part of the commission’s implementation priorities.

"We are supporting the VTrans application for the Putney Landing sidewalk," Coakley said during her update. The Selectboard acted on a motion from Peg Alden, seconded by Nate Snell; the minutes record that the motion passed but do not list a vote tally.

The Town Manager had earlier noted capital and program items that will feed into upcoming budget discussions, and the sidewalk grant support was presented as coordination between the Planning Commission’s priorities and the Selectboard’s budget and permitting work. The board did not attach additional conditions to the letter of support in the minutes.

The matter will proceed through the VTrans grant review process; the minutes do not record an anticipated award date. The Planning Commission and Selectboard will continue to align grant and budget planning in the coming weeks.
