Cedar County designates courthouse light‑pole display case as official posting location under new state law

On July 14, 2026, the Cedar County Board of Supervisors unanimously adopted Resolution 2026-07-04 designating the display case on the light pole at the northeast entrance of the Cedar County Courthouse, 400 Cedar Street in Tipton, as the county’s official physical posting location for public meeting notices.

The resolution, proposed to comply with House File 2490 (effective July 1, 2026), names the courthouse display case as the 24-hour visible and accessible posting site and requires that notices and tentative agendas also be posted on the county’s official website. The resolution instructs that any amended agenda be clearly labeled "AMENDED" and identify specific additions, removals, or modifications. It also directs the county to restore physical posting as soon as reasonably practicable if the designated location becomes temporarily inaccessible.

The motion to approve the resolution was moved by Supervisor Kaufmann and seconded by Supervisor Barnhart; the motion passed with "Ayes: All," with five supervisors present. The resolution is effective immediately upon adoption.

Board members and staff framed the measure as an implementation step required by recent state law rather than a change to meeting content. The full text of the resolution names the display case at the northeast courthouse entrance as the official location and preserves website posting as an additional channel.

The Board did not record public comment on the resolution during the meeting. The county will follow the posting practices described in the resolution and applicable provisions of Iowa Code Chapter 21.
