Planning commission’s 10% permit-fee increase approved, locked for five years

The planning representative (S11) said the department had not raised fees since 2016 and needs new revenue to cover fuel, vehicle and inspection costs.
S11 said the increase will be locked in for five years and cannot take effect until at least 180 days after public notice. Commissioners discussed whether 10% is sufficient—one commissioner suggested a larger increase but acknowledged community sensitivity to sudden fee hikes. The motion to move forward with the 10% increase was seconded and approved in a roll-call/voice vote; one commissioner recorded a nay.
The planning department said it will publicize the change, post reminders on social media and the website, and implement the fee change on the statutory schedule. Commissioners noted the importance of reviewing permit- and TIF-related impacts as state funding changes reduce some local revenue tools.
