Dawson County commissioners forward multiple items to Aug. 21 voting session

At its Aug. 7 work session the Dawson County Board of Commissioners placed a Georgia opioid abatement grant application, a staffing conversion, an IFB for Lumpkin Campground Road resurfacing, a proposed long-term ground lease for a radio system, and several board appointments on the Aug. 21 voting agenda.
The Dawson County Board of Commissioners at a work session on Aug. 7 agreed to place several items on the Aug. 21 voting session agenda, moving county business toward formal consideration.
Judicial Accountability Division Director Brad Williams presented a Georgia Opioid Crisis Abatement Trust grant application for treatment services; the board scheduled the item for the Aug. 21 voting session. Clerk of Court Justin Power requested conversion of a part-time deputy clerk position to full time; commissioners also placed that personnel item on the Aug. 21 agenda for decision.
Public Works Director Robert Drewry and Purchasing Manager Melissa Hawk introduced IFB #482-25 for Lumpkin Campground Road resurfacing; the board directed the procurement item be considered at the Aug. 21 meeting. Purchasing Manager Melissa Hawk also presented a State Properties Commission revocable license agreement and a resolution related to a proposed long-term ground lease for a public safety radio system; that item will appear on the Aug. 21 agenda.
The board announced several appointments to county bodies for formal approval at the voting session. Tara Linton was named as a nominee to the Library Board to replace Carroll Turner (term August 2025–June 2027); nominees for the Long Range Planning Committee included Corey Gutherie (replacing Terri Tragesser) and Mike Turner (replacing Gary Pichon).
Those present at the work session included Chairman Billy Thurmond, Commissioners Seth Stowers, Chris Gaines, Alexa Bruce and Chad Turkett, County Manager Joey Leverette, County Attorney Melissa Tracy, and County Clerk Kristen Cloud. The items scheduled for Aug. 21 will be subject to formal motions and votes at that meeting.
