Board hears plan to add Progress Learning benchmarks and SAT‑linked supports for high schools

District staff described steps to expand benchmarking and supports in high schools: purchase of Progress Learning to deliver benchmarks for grades 9–11, continued use of PSAT and SAT in 9th–11th grades, and development of SAT prep and classroom remediation plans. Dr. Barker and Amanda Payton reviewed sample results that showed Riverview scoring higher than Mountain View in several measures and emphasized foundations of algebra as an area requiring sustained work.

Presenters said faster benchmark feedback will let teachers identify gaps and assign remediation earlier. They also discussed connecting high‑school instruction to career and technical education (CTE) so students who do not pursue college still gain applied math skills used in welding, nursing and auto courses. Staff listed next steps including peer observations, teacher training and targeted interventions for 9th grade transition.
