Altamont adopts updated traffic and public-offense codes
The City Council on Aug. 22 approved Ordinance 657 adopting the 2023 Standard Traffic Ordinance and Ordinance 658 adopting the Uniform Public Offense Code (39th Edition). Both ordinances passed unanimously among members present.

The Altamont City Council approved two ordinance updates on Aug. 22 to align local code with statewide model codes. Ordinance 657 incorporates the Standard Traffic Ordinance for Kansas Cities, 50th Edition (2023), to regulate traffic within the city limits; Councilmember Ben Cochran moved to approve and Lyle Sykes seconded. Ordinance 658 adopts the Uniform Public Offense Code for Kansas Cities, 39th Edition, replacing the prior code under Ordinance 650.
