Council presses MCPS for more disaggregated, geographic and program-effectiveness data
Summary
Councilmembers requested gender-by-race cross-tabs, geographic visualizations and links between interventions and outcomes so they can evaluate which strategies work for which students; MCPS agreed to provide follow-up data in the fall.
Multiple councilmembers used the briefing to press for richer disaggregation and comparative context. Chair Will Juando and others asked where Montgomery County stands relative to other Maryland districts and asked staff to provide maps and subgroup cross-tabs, including gender-by-race breakdowns.
Dr. Addison acknowledged the request and said MCPS will share comparisons to other local education agencies and provide more detailed disaggregation in follow-up materials: "Historically in the district, MCPS has outperformed the state on average... we can definitely share that information to show you kind of where MCPS falls in the range of local educational agencies in the state of Maryland."
Councilmembers also asked for program-specific outcome data (for example, evidence that IXL or a particular intervention is producing gains) so the council can consider funding decisions. Dr. Addison said program evaluation results will be used to connect budget to outcomes and that the district is revising its program-evaluation agenda now to present to the Board in the fall.
