Board authorizes CDBG application and related steps for drainage project

The board voted to pursue a Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) application for drainage improvements and approved the set of resolutions needed to begin the application process.
Miss Jennifer Buford explained the city recently closed out a sewer CDBG project and is eligible to apply for a drainage project. She outlined four resolutions the board needed to adopt: authorize the mayor to submit and sign the application, authorize East Central Planning and Development District to prepare and submit the application, advertise and select an engineering firm to prepare cost estimates, and schedule the required public hearing and advertisement window. "The applications are due on May 29th," Buford said, noting a 14–21 day advertisement window for the required public hearing.
The board approved all four resolutions by voice vote. Staff will advertise for engineering firms, score submittals in April, and then hold the public hearing in the eligible window in May. Buford noted that small‑cities CDBG grants can fund up to $600,000 without match (the regular round can be up to $750,000 but would require a 10% match) and recommended applying for the $600,000 option.
