Amazon’s Moore Road plan relies on three underground basins sized for 100‑year storms; Board probes infiltration timing waiver

Jun 4, 2026

Bohler Engineers described an MRC basin plus two retention basins sized to meet local and DEP water quality/volume/rate standards—MRC ~80–90k cu ft, north basin similar, south basin ~230k cu ft—and requested a waiver to allow the MRC to infiltrate over 116 hours rather than 72 hours; Board and staff discussed backflow prevention and oversized storage for a 100‑year event.

The full story

Bohler Engineers' Linsey Breylinger told the Board the existing 760 Moore Road site lacks adequate stormwater management and described a three‑basin solution that the team said complies with Upper Merion Township and DEP standards. The proposed managed release concept (MRC) basin east of the building would capture roof runoff and hold approximately 80,000–90,000 cubic feet of water, the north retention basin would be similar in capacity, and the south basin would be the largest at about 230,000 cubic feet. The basins include inlet filtration to capture sediment and backflow prevention devices so creek rises cannot push water back into the basins.
