Pine County sets public hearing to reaffirm data-center moratorium

The Pine County Board voted to set a public hearing for Aug. 18 to solicit public testimony on the county's data-center moratorium. County Administrator Kelly Schroeder told the board she reviewed the statute underpinning the moratorium ordinance (2026-15) and, after consultation with the county attorney, concluded a hearing should be scheduled to avoid procedural challenges when finalizing the ordinance.
Schroeder asked the board to set the hearing as close to 10 a.m. on Aug. 18 as possible; a motion was made by Commissioner Nelson and seconded by Commissioner Ludwig and the board recorded affirmative votes. Schroeder said the hearing will allow public testimony regarding the moratorium before finalization and reaffirmation of the ordinance.
The motion had no extended discussion; the board recorded roll-call votes in favor and will publish notice for the hearing as required.
