Committee recommends three trees for heritage nomination

The Environmental Stewardship Committee voted to recommend three trees for nomination as heritage trees and will forward those recommendations to the City Commission. The committee read addresses and a brief description of the three proposed trees before approving the recommendation by voice vote.

Sarah Boren moved that the committee "recommend commission, nominate or approve the 3 heritage trees," and the motion was seconded and carried with no objections. Committee members discussed minor stewardship details for a specific nomination; Amy Franke noted that "there is a golden pothos growing on it" and that staff should educate owners not to let vines climb heritage trees. City Arborist Chris Delk said the committee will forward the names and photos to the Commission as a package and follow any procedural requirements for subcommittee quorum.

The recommendation is a nonbinding nomination: the full City Commission will review the committee’s recommendation and make the final designation. The committee recorded the vote as a voice vote with "aye" and no objections; staff will include the three tree nominations in the next Commission packet and confirm whether any further hearings or permits are required.
