Water crews repair reservoir pipe and plan lead sampling program

Trustee Irene Avitia reported several water and sewer maintenance actions and upcoming public-health sampling at the June 1 board meeting.
Avitia said crews repaired an overflow pipe that was pulled out of the village's 1-million-gallon supply storage tank by replacing the link seal, sealing around the pipe and restraining the pipe flange to prevent a recurrence. She also reported that the King Street pumping station's new generator has been installed and crews will replace two 12-inch check valves in the Chicago pit on the supply line feeding the main pump house. In addition, crews rebuilt two street drains and jetted 310 feet of sewer at specified locations.
On testing, Avitia said childcare lead samples for the year were shipped to the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency and the village is awaiting results. She added the programmatic schedule for lead sampling of 60 residents will begin in September and must be completed by December.
