Committee approves Business Enterprise Program rule rewrite to streamline vendor rules

The committee approved the Commission for the Blind’s rewrite of Business Enterprise Program rules, reducing chapter language and preserving program opportunities for blind entrepreneurs who run vending facilities, cafeterias and micro markets.

Arianna Ruzovich, Business Enterprise Program Specialist with the Idaho Commission for the Blind and Visually Impaired, told the Senate Health and Welfare Committee that the Business Enterprise Program provides remunerative employment opportunities through vending facilities, cafes and micro markets across government properties. She said the program has grown from two facilities to more than 100 vending facilities, five micro markets and four cafeterias and that stakeholders and the ICBVI board approved the revised rules before federal Rehabilitation Services Administration review.
