Pierson adopts NFIP-mandated floodplain updates on first reading

The council approved Ordinance 2025-09 on first reading to incorporate state-mandated floodplain provisions required by the National Flood Insurance Program; the planner said the updates affect limited properties mostly near lakes and leave the town little discretion.

Town planner Mark Corette told the council that the proposed Ordinance 2025-09 incorporates state-mandated floodplain language into the town's Unified Land Development Regulations to comply with the National Flood Insurance Program and FEMA mapping changes. "All the changes that have been that are in the ordinance before you are state mandated," Corette said, adding that impacts in Pierson are limited to areas around lakes and a small number of properties.
