Commission repeals Resaca fee after PUB recommendation

The City Commission adopted an ordinance repealing the Resaca fee after the Brownsville Public Utilities Board (PUB) recommended elimination. PUB representatives reviewed the history and options and said they had considered elimination or reduction; the commission previously approved first reading on June 16 and, after a PUB resolution on July 13 endorsing elimination, the commission completed second reading and repeal.
City legal/PUB staff said the ordinance provides implementation timing so that the elimination will apply for the billing month immediately following the month when the repeal becomes effective, allowing PUB staff time to update billing systems. The commission approved the ordinance by voice vote.
