During the budget review council debated small-line contributions previously removed from staff's draft. After discussion about community benefit and process, Council member Diana moved to revise the contributions list to add back funding for the Fourth of July fireworks and the boat parade.
Finance Director Emily clarified the amounts and the effect on totals: "So just to clarify, we're adding 1000 dollars for the 4th of July fireworks and $250 for the boat parade. So the contributions are going from $10,006.50 to 11,900." After a roll-call vote the motion passed 3 to 2.
Council members who supported reinstating the contributions said they recognized the events' value to residents and regional recognition; opponents raised process and vetting concerns. The change will be reflected in staff's updated budget materials.
