The Selectboard reviewed comments on a draft ordinance regulating the disposal of solid waste and concentrated its discussion on enforcement authority. Selectboard member Aileen Tulloch asked who would enforce the ordinance and recommended formatting the ordinance into a standard layout before sending it to the town lawyer for review.
Town Manager Karen Astley warned that having ordinances the town does not enforce "are not a good look" and proposed sending a formal request to the Sheriff’s office to determine whether deputies will enforce the ordinance. Howard Fairman suggested that regional constables might provide enforcement coverage. The board agreed the next steps include standardizing the ordinance format and seeking confirmation from the Sheriff; if the Sheriff does not commit, the town may explore a constable or other regional options.
