Police highlight reintegration coordinator and homelessness-task-force coordination

Raleigh County Police described a reintegration coordinator funded by city special alcohol tax and new cross-agency communications to link people in crisis to services and avoid unnecessary arrests; staff said criminal accountability remains necessary in some cases.

Director Brian Pete told commissioners the department is partnering with the homelessness services task force to reduce disruptive and criminal behavior linked to homelessness while increasing pathways to services. He said the city-funded reintegration coordinator helps people exiting custody with documents, licenses and job-readiness so they can access employment and housing opportunities.
