Committee members and agency staff underscored workforce concerns for direct support professionals (DSPs), saying the county’s home- and community-based services ecosystem depends on that labor force. Councilmember Andrew Friedson said the combination of rising county minimum wage and reductions in state reimbursement could lead to provider strain and fewer available services.
Dr. Patrice McGee said the county convened a task force to examine the DSP workforce and that the group produced roughly 26 comprehensive recommendations spanning government levels. “Our home and community-based services ecosystem does not exist if we do not have direct support professionals,” McGee said, and staff agreed to share the task force report with the committee and continue monitoring provider participation in the county supplement.
