Maverick representative defends safety systems, lighting and traffic mitigations for Rio Rancho site

Maverick’s agent, identified by the council as Mr. Pigott, presented the company’s site and operational plans and repeatedly emphasized safety features and mitigations. He described the company’s fuel‑tank construction and monitoring systems — “we use double wall fiberglass construction on our tanks” and 24‑hour leak detection monitored by the company’s Salt Lake City operations — and said landscaping, photometric plans and dimmable canopy lights are intended to reduce impacts on nearby residences.

Pigott also addressed traffic and access constraints: he described planned intersection improvements on Monterey Road, a 350‑foot right‑turn pocket and a bike lane, and referenced “the letter we received from Rio Rancho dated May 19 where we had the traffic study accepted by the city.” On alcohol sales he said plainly, “We are not pursuing an alcohol license this time.” The applicant said some mitigation items (lighting pole height, EV charging provision) would be coordinated with staff and noted that some access limitations were driven by NMDOT spacing rules.
