District reports RISE gains in elementary and middle grades; targeted supports still needed

The superintendent summarized comparative data from 2022–23 to 2023–24: "Grade 3 English language arts saw a significant jump of 55% proficiency to 67%," the superintendent said, and noted other strong gains including grade 7 mathematics (60% to 72%) and grade 9 mathematics (22% to 40%). The presentation also identified grade-level areas needing attention: mathematics and science in grade 3, math and science in grade 6, and language arts and mathematics in grade 8.
Principals and instructional staff credited collaborative professional learning communities and shared curriculum choices for the improvements. Michelle (speaker 10) said increased PLC awareness and cross-grade collaboration helped identify essential standards and guide tiered interventions. Board members praised staff and principals for the improvements and asked administrators to keep tracking progress and target interventions where gains remain uneven.
The board directed staff to continue monitoring RISE performance and bring additional detail on intervention strategies and progress at future meetings.
