County says SHARP program has housed 795 people this year

Members of the Services to End and Prevent Homelessness team told the committee that the SHARP program has produced substantial housing placements this year but that inflow remains a continuing challenge.
"It is incredible work to house 795 people," Chief Hong said, acknowledging the SHARP team and partners. SEF staff said the county had housed 795 adults and children and 221 families over the last 10 months and that since July the program had housed 95 new households.
Despite those placements, staff pointed to an inflow-outflow chart showing families continue to enter the system at an average rate of 28 per month. Chief Hong and others warned that SHARP funds were fully used in May and that outflow slowed before permanent SHARP funding was added to the next fiscal-year plan, creating a temporary pause in placements.
Councilmembers praised the placements and asked staff to continue developing diversion and prevention strategies to stop households from entering the system in the first place.
