County identifies top code violations: high grass, open storage and inoperable vehicles

DeKalb County code compliance officials listed their most common summer complaints and said the department is shifting from repeated warning notices to more citations for habitual violators. “We have a high weeds and grass problem. We have an open storage problem, and we have a raggedy vehicle problem,” the Director said, adding that more than 80% of violations are repeats.
Officials described procedures to validate complaints — officers must observe the violation during inspection and may request additional timing details from complainants — and noted the department now works later hours to catch violations that occur after traditional business hours.
