Commissioners press for road striping, drainage fixes; courthouse pipe replacement to use SPLOST funds

During commissioner comments, Barry Cox asked county staff to prioritize striping work and noted a lack of striping on Zion Hill Church Road. County Manager James Shubert said the striping project should begin soon and gave status updates: a Notice to Proceed has been issued for Tara Road and design work is underway for Folks Bennett Road. Shubert also said ditches on Katie Lane and Dusty Lane have been pulled and the contractor should be preparing to mix and pave pending weather delays.
Chairman Elmer Thrift raised drainage concerns along canals where houses have been built at their edge and said the county should consult the Georgia Environmental Protection Division or the Army Corps of Engineers on infrastructure updates. Commissioner Jon Tindall noted that if old courthouse fittings contain lead, state funding might be available for replacement; Shubert said remaining 2014 SPLOST building funds and 2022 SPLOST building funds would be used to help cover pipe replacement costs.
